Sophia’s Art Portfolio
Sophia has been an artist her entire life, but she started creating competition pieces when she entered middle school about four years ago. Explore a collection of some of her favorite competition and non-competition pieces.
This section is included to provide a broader picture of Sophia’s interests and creative work outside of gymnastics.
Iris: This piece was entered in the VASE art competition when Sophia was in 9th grade. It earned a perfect score of 4. It was inspired by a few of Sophia’s favorite things; art, sunsets, bright colors, and flowers.
Opal: This piece was made as a gift for a teacher when Sophia was in 10th grade. It was made using his favorite colors, and Sophia calls it “Opal” because the multicolored shell reminds her of the opal gemstone.
Art Is…: This piece was entered in a Celebrating Art competition when Sophia was in 8th grade. It is based on the idea that artwork can evoke many feelings within people.
I Am Hopeful Because…: This piece was entered in the PTA Reflections art competition when Sophia was in 8th grade. It earned a distinguished award. The prompt was “I am hopeful because…” The piece was inspired by Sophia’s Christian faith.
Crowned in Color: This piece was entered in the Junior VASE art competition when Sophia was in 8th grade. It earned a perfect score of 4. It is based on the idea of beauty melting under pressure.
As I See Myself: Sophia created this piece when she was in 8th grade and entered it in the TAEA Student Art Month competition in 9th grade. It was one of 100 pieces chosen for the exhibition at the Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin, Texas. This achievement was featured in the April 2025 edition of the South Denton Living magazine.
